A few weeks ago I was asked by my boss to write a proposal to make me full time in the New Year. I spent time, over the weekend, to come up with new creative ideas and opportunities for our organization to investigate as potential enrichment to our students’ experience in Dublin.
On Wednesday I was informed that my boss’ boss had “officially declined” to make me a full-time employee. Instead, he suggested we take on a student intern to do the work. The student intern would be one of our own students (ie. just off the plane from the USA with not one fucking clue about ANYTHING in Dublin). Better yet, I’ve been asked to make time in my already over-packed work schedule to supervise said student.
I am truly struggling to handle this in a graceful and professional manner. I am sick and tired of not being respected as an employee told repeatedly that I’m ‘lucky to have even part-time work in this economy,’ it does nothing to make me want to work hard, act creatively, solve problems or be proactive in regards to my duties.
And yes, from here on out I will nickel and dime you for every hour I put in… even though that goes against my ‘behave like an adult’ goal.
